President Trump announced the launch of “Project Freedom” to be enacted starting the following day, in which he said that after being asked by countries from around the world, the U.S would guide their ships safely out of the Strait of Hormuz. He added that this was a “a humanitarian gesture on behalf of the United States, Middle Eastern Countries but, in particular, the Country of Iran” and threatened to use force only “if, in any way, this humanitarian process is interfered with”. The announcement came soon after President Trump said he would review Iran’s new fourteen point proposal, but that he’d likely reject it as “they have not paid a big enough price.” A couple hours later, U.S Central Command disclosed that “guided-missile destroyers, over 100 land and sea-based aircraft, multi-domain unmanned platforms, and 15,000 service members” would be used to support Project Freedom. Meanwhile, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that the U.S faced a choice between an “impossible” military operation or a deal with Tehran.
