President Trump asserted that Iran had “just informed us that they are in a ‘state of collapse’. They want us to ‘open the Hormuz Strait’, as soon as possible, as they try to figure our their leadership situation (which I believe they will be able to do”. Relatedly, U.S. Central Command reported that U.S. forces had boarded “a commercial ship suspected of attempted to transit to Iran in violation of the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports” but released it after “confirming the ship’s voyage would not include an Iranian port call”. CENTCOM added that since the blockade came into effect, “39 vessels have been redirected to ensure compliance”. A senior Iranian military official meanwhile indicated that “allowing the smooth transit of commercial ships will be on the agenda after the end of the war, provided that protocols that do not jeopardise Iran’s security are observed”.
