President Trump warned that “a massive armada is heading to Iran… it is ready, willing and able to rapidly fulfil its mission, with speed and violence, if necessary”. He added: “Hopefully Iran will quickly “come to the table” and negotiate a fair and equitable deal – no nuclear weapons – one that is good for all parties. Time is running out, it is truly of the essence.” Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in turn warned that Iran’s armed forces were “prepared… to immediately and powerfully respond to any aggression”, and reiterated openness to a “mutually beneficial, fair and equitable nuclear deal – on equal footing, and free from coercion, threats, and intimidation – which ensures Iran’s rights to peaceful nuclear technology, and guarantees no nuclear weapons”. On the same day, he asserted: “There was no contact between me and [U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East] Witkoff in recent days and no request for negotiations was made from us”. But he acknowledged that Iran was “in contact with mediators”.
