U.S. forces in the Caribbean Sea seized a crude oil tanker used to transport sanctioned oil from Venezuela and Iran. Attorney General Pamela Bondi said: “For multiple years, the oil tanker has been sanctioned by the United States due to its involvement in an illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organizations”. Venezuela’s government condemned the seizure as “an act of international piracy”. Iran’s embassy in Venezuela called the U.S. move “a grave violation of international laws and norms, including the inviolable principle of freedom of the seas and navigation”.
