Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar said that Israel wanted to reach a security agreement with Syria, asserting: “We never had territorial ambitions in Syria – if we did, we could have taken more [territory]…. We don’t want terror activities promoted in Syria”. On Lebanon, Saar said that Israel sought normalization with its northern neighbour, but that Israel had to “finish” Hizbollah to “bring Lebanon back to its people”. Saar also warned that Iran was a threat to regional security and “not only an Israeli issue”, maintaining that Tehran sought nuclear weapons.
