Crisis Group’s Research on Gender and Conflict

Over three decades, Crisis Group has built up a wide body of work on gender and conflict – evolving from a 2003 piece on women and reconstruction in Afghanistan to the range of publications covering much of the globe that is available today.

As part of Crisis Group’s work to identify the drivers of conflict and offer recommendations for a durable peace, we analyse the many ways in which gender shapes war and peacemaking. These range from the differentiated impacts of conflict to the gender-linked reasons that people participate in fighting and their roles in conflict resolution. To see how our coverage of these dynamics has grown over the years, move the slider at the bottom of the map and click on any country highlighted in orange to see the relevant list of publications.
