The Israeli military killed Hizbollah’s chief of general staff in Beirut, asserting he “played a key role in expanding Hizbollah’s operational and military capacities”. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned: “Israel will not allow Hizbollah to rebuild its power, and we will not allow it to pose a threat to the State of Israel again… I expect the government of Lebanon to fulfil its commitment to disarm Hizbollah”. Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council asserted that “Netanyahu continues his adventures until everyone realizes that no path remains except to confront this fabricated entity”, while a senior Hizbollah official maintained that the “Zionists should remain worried” about the group’s potential response. “We won’t concern ourselves with any proposals as long as the enemy doesn’t commit to the [2024] ceasefire agreement”, he added.
