About WILPF 

The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) is seeking an experienced freelance web consultant to support and improve its digital platforms: WILPF.org and MyWILPF.org. 

WILPF is an international feminist peace organisation working to advance justice, disarmament, gender equality, and human rights. Our website is a key tool for communicating our mission, engaging supporters, and strengthening our global movement. 

Purpose of the Role 

The web consultant will ensure that WILPF’s websites are: 

  • Stable, secure, and reliable 
  • Improve accessibility in line with WCAG 2.1 AA standards 
  • Easy to use and engaging for diverse audiences 
  • Optimised for SEO and discoverability 
  • Properly integrated with CRM, Mailchimp, donation systems, and related tools 
  • Supported by clear analytics and performance reporting 
  • Continuously improved in UX/UI and functionality 

Scope of Work 

The consultant will provide ongoing technical and advisory support across the following areas: 

1. Website Maintenance and Development  

  • WordPress core, theme, and plugin updates 
  • Bug fixing and technical troubleshooting 
  • Maintenance of WILPF.org and MyWILPF.org 
  • Support for campaign pages, microsites, and advocacy tools 
  • Implementation of small-scale development improvements 

2. Security and Performance 

  • Regular security updates and monitoring 
  • Vulnerability detection and issue resolution 
  • Support for backups and recovery processes 
  • Performance optimisation (speed, stability, reliability) 

3. UX/UI and Accessibility 

  • UX/UI improvements to key user journeys (donation, membership, engagement) 
  • Accessibility audits and remediation work 
  • Progress towards WCAG 2.1 AA compliance 
  • Recommendations to improve usability and navigation 

4. SEO and Analytics 

  • Technical SEO improvements (structure, metadata, indexing) 
  • Google Analytics monitoring 
  • Quarterly analytics reporting with insights and recommendations 
  • Establishment of baseline KPIs for website performance 

5. Systems Integration 

Support and troubleshooting for: 

  • Mailchimp 
  • Members subscription 
  • Donation platforms/plugins 
  • CRM systems 
  • Ensure data flows and integrations function correctly 

6. Advisory Support (Secondary) 

  • Technical guidance and prioritisation of improvements 
  • Recommendations for digital strategy and optimisation 
  • Light documentation where needed to support continuity 

Deliverables 

  • Ongoing website maintenance and issue resolution 
  • Quarterly analytics and performance reports 
  • Accessibility improvement progress and implementation 
  • SEO and UX/UI improvement actions 
  • Technical recommendations and documentation (as needed) 

Working Method and Time Commitment 

  • Contract start: As soon as possible 
  • Contract end: 31 December 2026 (with scope to extend pending available funding) 
  • Estimated workload: 8 hours per week  
  • Fully remote role  
  • Flexible working hours with expectation of delivery during the working week  
  • Availability for overlap with CET (Central European Time) working hours (approx. 09:00–17:00 CET preferred)  
  • Weekly task-based coordination with the Senior Communications Coordinator 
  • Daily approval of website changes by Communications team and sensitive content approval by Secretary General 

Due to limited weekly capacity, tasks will be prioritised in collaboration with the Communications team. In cases of workload constraints, the consultant and team will agree on what is deferred. Stability, security, and critical functionality take precedence over UX/UI enhancements, SEO improvements, or non-essential developments.  

The consultant will work independently while coordinating closely with the Communications and Membership teams. The consultant must comply with GDPR regulations and ensure responsible handling of any personal data accessed through WILPF systems. 

Budget and Compensation 

As a non-profit organisation, this role is offered within a limited budget, and salary expectations should be aligned with the non-profit sector. 

Required Qualifications 

Essential: 

  • 3–5+ years experience with WordPress development and maintenance  
  • Experience with website troubleshooting and optimisation  
  • Strong knowledge of UX/UI and accessibility principles  
  • Experience with SEO and Google Analytics  
  • Understanding of website security best practices  
  • Knowledge of GDPR compliance  
  • Strong English communication skills  

Desirable: 

  • Experience working with NGOs, feminist, human rights or peacebuilding organisations  
  • Experience with WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility implementation  
  • Experience with CRM and email marketing integrations (e.g. Mailchimp, members subscription)  
  • Experience with multilingual websites
