President Donald Trump announced that U.S. officials would be returning to Pakistan for negotiations with Iran, and said “we’re offering a very fair and reasonable deal, and I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the U.S. is going to knock out every single power plant, and every single bridge, in Iran”. He subsequently announced that after an Iran-flagged cargo vessel “tried to get past our naval blockade… our navy ships stopped them right in their tracks”. CENTCOM affirmed that U.S. forces “boarded the non-compliant vessel, which remains in U.S. custody”, and tallied that under the blockade “U.S. forces have directed 25 commercial vessels to turn around or return to an Iranian port”. An Iranian military spokesperson warned that “once the safety of the families and crew of the vessel targeted by American aggression is ensured, the powerful armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran will take the necessary action against the terrorist U.S. army”.
