The Lebanese military announced that “its plan to confine weapons [held by Hizbollah and other groups] has reached an advanced stage after achieving the objectives of the first phase in an effective and tangible manner on the ground”. The Israeli prime minister’s office, however, said that efforts by Lebanon to disarm Hizbollah are “an encouraging beginning, but they are far from sufficient, as evidenced by Hizbollah’s efforts to rearm and rebuild its terror infrastructure with Iranian support”. Israel’s foreign ministry added that “extensive Hizbollah military infrastructure still exists south of the Litani River”, further noting: “Hizbollah continues to rearm with the support of Iran… Hizbollah is rearming faster than it is being disarmed”.
