Israeli and Lebanese officials met in Naqoura, Lebanon as part of the ongoing U.S.-led multi-lateral security dialogue. The Israeli prime minister’s office said: “The meeting took place in a good atmosphere; it was agreed that ideas would be formulated to advance possible economic cooperation between Israel and Lebanon. Israel clarified that the disarmament of Hizbollah is obligatory, regardless of the advancement of economic cooperation. The sides agreed to hold a follow-up discussion.” Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam told reporters that Lebanon was “far from” normalising relations with Israel and committed to the 2002 Arab peace plan, which stipulates that normalization must be preceded by the creation of a Palestinian state. “Economic relations would be part of such normalisation, so then obviously anyone following the news would know that we are not there at all”, he remarked.
